Micowave Sounder on MetOp-SG Sat-A working well
We were heartened to learn, both from published material and private conversations with ESA and EUMETSAT colleagues, that MWS - for which TK is responsible for both the Quasi-Optical Antenna (QON) and the On Board Calibration Target (OBCT) - is performingt well and (we understand) beyond expectations. It is now under the control of EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, having finished the Satellite In-Orbit Verification, SIOV.
ESA announted initial results here, saying
"The MWS is a microwave sounder that detects temperature, humidity, precipitation and ice cloud formation and features a twofold improvement in resolution compared with its predecessor. The instrument began sensing just one week after launch, and imagery from its Channel 2 data during the first scanning orbit clearly shows summer temperatures in Europe and sea ice around the Antarctic".

There is also an interesting talk given on the 4th December at an RAL space onference where Peter Huggard presents current results
